I apologize if this is not in the right forum.

In your experience, what is the best time and day of the week to list an online coin auction?

I usually list about 7 pm Pacific time, because it works for all the continental US time zones. I usually list Sunday night to end Wed. Friday night is a bad time to end because people aren't in. You are trying to plan the end time because that's when all the action is.

I'd love other people's suggestions.

My wife used to do alot of content for websites and search engine optimization for this web based company. Point being she did research all day on what people were googleing, trends on searches, and when people were online the most - MONDAY! Monday is the day that people hate being at work, start of the week, etc...its a FACT that most people AT WORK will be online MONDAY than any day of the week... I just ended 8 sales on ebay for some Peace dollars and made out better than expected... id say try to end it mid morning-mid afternoon before they go home for the day... mine ended at 10AM PST.
Rest in Peace

When ICQ was popular, it was odd that people signed in within minutes of each other, even if they were several time zones apart.

A lot depends on what you're selling. Coins with a lot of Yurrupean interest should end 5-8 hours earlier than for the US market.

This may help:

I just started bidding on coins on Teletrade. It doesn't appear that they have auctions going on Thurs, Fri, or Sat. I'm sure they have a good reason for that.

I like listing ebay auctions on Sunday afternoon before 5 pm. This seems to give me the most hits, particularly on Saturday night when your auction sends out less than 24 hour notices (Last Chance) to anyone watching or bidding.

Sunday afternoon is also a good time because you can package up any items and have them in the mail on Monday morning!

Peak visitorship on ebay runs in daily and weekly cycles following the same pattern seen around most of the World Wide Web. In general, traffic flows according to the following two simple rules:

Daily peak visitorship is between 8:00 PM eastern time and 10:00 PM pacific time. To maximize bidding for daily peak time, list your auction during this window so that it will close during this window and gain the largest possible daily audience.
Weekly peak visitorship is on Sunday evening. To match your listing to the weekly peak in order to maximize bidding, list so that your auction will close on a Sunday evening between 8:00 PM eastern time and 10:00 PM pacific time. Listing seven-day auctions every Sunday evening is a convenient way to time your auctions well without having to think about it too much, while also avoiding the surcharge on 10-day listings.

Using these simple rules, you can maximize your bids on an ongoing basis. List seven-day or ten-day auctions whenever possible and time them to end on Sunday evenings.

Good Luck!..........Glenn

Great advice. I listed once and it ended at 7 am. Didn't get much of an audience. Will have to go with glenzy's info.

Glenzy is right about traffic patterns on ebay.
In 2009 I tracked sales of Canadian Victoria silver coins on ebay.Highest prices as a percentage of trends were on Saturday, lowest prices were Sunday after 11PM Eastern.

Thanks every one, I've never considered this question.
This is also good info to have if you're exclusively a buyer.

I usually list on Sunday,Wednesday or Thursday at around 9:30 Eastern time, that way people on the West coast has a hour and a half to get home if they get off work at 5:00 and the people on the East Coast will already be out of church by 9:30 on the next Sunday and Wednesday when it closes (I always run my auctions 7 days, not 3 like above). If I do run it on Thursday it is because some people get paid on Thursday and even if they win on Wednesday they sometimes will not pay until Thursday anyway for this reason. Either day usually does just as good for me though. Early afternoon on Sunday through early afternoon Sunday is also a pretty good time. Its really about what you are selling, and this is for coins only, if its business related items the best time to list and close is during business hours

Payment... I would like to add another bit to this discussion about listing on ebay. If you sell something expect at least 48 hours for payment and then ebay will hold onto your $$$ for as much as 15 days for new sellers. Finally, ebay will charge fees for the auctions once a month and if money is in your PP account, expect it to be drafted immediately from funds available (not funds pending).

In other words, do not think this is a get rich quick system!
