just curious if this penny I found is worth passing off to a collector or if its just junk...

one side is a shield with a crown at the top and a hand in the middle and words ULSTER CHAPTER R.A.M No 219 G.R.C

the other side has a judaic symbol at the top above a crest with the letters K.S.H.T.W.S.S.T circling the inside

any help would be appreciated thanks!

This piece is a Masonic Chapter Penny that was once belonged to a member of the Ulster Lodge, probably located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. For centuries Masons have carried these tokens as, shall we say, a low tech form of identification to other masons not of their lodge. I don't exaggerate when I state that a huge variety of these tokens exist. I collect those of my city (NYC)and have about 25 or so. I have another few from other places mainly for the busts of famous persons that or on them i.e. Thomas Edison and Lincoln. There are many little towns which have had no reason to produce a token of any sort but will have a chapter penny of their Masonic lodge. There's a volume by E.A.King listing over 10,000 and I believe he covered mainly the U.S. and CANADA. I don't think they are issuing them as much as they once did.

Masonic pennies & tokens used to be cheap to collect. I'm talking 60s-70s, prices today astound me.
I learned a long time ago how to remember the initials found on many pieces. KSHTWSST
"King Solomon had twenty wives, some say twelve."

If you want to know what HTWSSTKS really means, I suspect you'll have to join the lodge and get yourself elevated into the Royal Arch chapter.

This penny bears the "mark" or special personal symbol assigned to the particular member who originally owned it, inscribed in the circle in the middle of the keystone.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
