I will apologize upfront that I can't post pictures or a link. But if you are adventurous you can get there easily. I posted two recent ebay acquisitions over on the VamWorld discussion forum. The title of the post was "They are still out there" and my forum name there is "Vamsky" ... cat's out of the bag now. In the last two weeks I've picked two 1878 8TF Morgans that are very rare indeed, a VAM 14.13 and a 14.15 (pictures and details are on the VamWorld site).

Here's the long-shot ... last evening I pulled the trigger on an 1880-P that the seller listed as UNC and no other comments. Photos of the coin show it in a 2x2 holder with the following markings ... 1880-P, Unc, VAM 8, R-6! My fingers are crossed and I am loading up on four-leaf clovers.

You're Vamsky?

Might have known. A voice of reason remains reasonable regardless of circumstances.

Well, the 80-P came in on Saturday and it's going back today. The coin was not a VAM 8, not even close. It was a VAM 50A. How could someone miss it that badly? I asked the seller dhirsh1149 (update NY) and he explained an older gent did his vamming. He doesn't pay him anything, but he doesn't want him to go away because he enjoys the conversation.

I don't buy that. The guy was 'outed' in the bst forum on VamWorld (I saw this after I bid). Same M.O. and same excuse. If you want to buy just the coin from this guy go ahead ... the condition was as described. But he has a propensity to attribute Morgans in his favor all too often.

I am out the cost of mailing to and from. Lesson learned.

That's not good! I have a few Vam-50a's ...3 of them total all in PCGS MS-66 grade. How anyone could anyone mistake a Vam-8 to Vam-50a that's beyond the need for Lisik Eye surgery.

As a side note did you know that over 38% of all MS-66 1880 P's graded by both PCGS and NGC are a Vam-50a? The total number in POP is less then 130 total coins combined with cross overs. Of my 3 one is the revision coin that shows the "N" clashed off the neck. It's faint but is now referred to as the EDS of the vam-50a to date there are 2 known 1 in MS-64 and my MS-66.

Anyway I am sorry to here about that not being a vam-8, Pete has an extra in pcgs 45 his other is an AU-53 if you still need one BTW
