Not really a collector of ancient Greek, but I have been wanting a low-priced coin of Alexander the Great for a while. And so I managed to snag this coin of him for $7 When I receive it, it will be my oldest coin in my entire collection! What do you think?

According to the seller the obverse is Herakles with a club and bowcase on the reverse, and is 17 mm. But unfortunately I know almost nothing else about these coins, so any more info on my coin and hopefully an attribution will be appreciated, thanks!

(Seller's pic - this particular seller's coins are usually lighter in the photo than in hand, so my coin will probably be darker in hand than in the photo)

Nice catch--you got a lot of detail for your money! Congrats on your first Greek!
I think it resembles this coin, although I can't make out the symbol below the exergue for a specific ID.

My-First-Ancient-Greek-Coin!

Alexander III The Great. Macedonian Mint 336-323 BC. Obverse: Head of Hercules right wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: BA between club and Bow in case.

Thanks a lot guys!

DV, now that I have taken a look at the exergue, I think I see a very faint E or C, but my eyes could be tricking me. Hopefully it will be clearer in hand.

Here is the Wildwinds page Sometimes there are symbols, sometimes letters below. The coin I posted has a thunderbolt; I can almost see one on yours.

I believe that the reverse on the coins above is a bow/case and club.

If you are right about the thunderbolt, then I think I found it's attribution: Price 376. According to Wildwinds this one is a posthumous issue.

Price 376 was the attribution of the coin I pictured.
