What is proper etiquette when picking up rolls from the bank? I usually pick up 10 rolls of quarters and 30 rolls of dimes 3 times a week....all from different banks. So I am getting this amount once a week from any particular bank. They have always given them to me. I get a look when I order them or I get a look after they find they are just for me and not for a business. I'm a very passive guy and I don't want to upset anyone (edited by staff to make family friendly) or cause any problems so I'm always very nervous when they give me a look or ask me what I want them for. I pick up from 3 banks and I drop off at 3 different banks. I always return with then wrapped in groups of 10 with elastics and all standing up the same way. Am I doing this right? I'm I nervous for no reason? I want to keep in good relations with the tellers but I just get an iffy vibe from some. All advice, comments and experiences are welcome and encouraged. Thank-you. CHEERS!

I always say "please" and "thank you", whether I get any rolls or not. I never return rolls (anymore, since the banks/credit unions don't accept them anymore) I dump them in the counter and deposit it back into my account...rinse and repeat.

I am a very shy guy and also was very very nervous when I first started roll hunting. I hated asking for boxes of coin and I hated dumping. But once you realize how many people out there roll search, you won't feel bad anymore. I used to make up excuses for picking up coins so I wouldn't seem weird. I feel now that it is easiest to tell the truth. I just say that I collect coins and like to search through them. Most of them are like "oh cool". and some will ask what sort of stuff I have found before. Even one teller was a collector herself and when I asked for coins she showed me a few cool coins she found in her tray. After a while you will realize it's no big deal. I asked if a lot of people buy boxes and I am told by the banks that they get tons of people doing the same thing and that it isn't annoying. I usually search 3-4 boxes of coins a week. I never get more than 1 box at a time from a bank, there are several banks in my area that I go to. They have no problem helping us, and they will think you are an easy customer compared to others who order 10-20 boxes a week.
I find it easiest to tell the truth and don't worry so much. I have a much better time roll searching knowing I don't have to worry about picking up or dumping coins. It is very common!

I have never had a problem with asking for coins. Most bank tellers never question why I want coins. I have told many of them that I am a collector and that when I am done looking through the coins, I take them to a different bank, and I explained that it was to keep them happy. I've shown some of my coin finds with some tellers, and they have various reactions. Sometimes they react nonchalantly, while others react with surprise (like when I recently found those two silver Peace dollars). I think it is all about going to the right banks and talking with the right tellers.

I explained to all the tellers about what iI was doing with the coins and have not had any problems. every wednesday is a routine thing for me to show up for my coins(they even have the roller cart waiting for me). The president of the banks asks about my finds every wednesday. I return the wrapped rolls to the same bank. the tellers make sure I don't get the same rolls in return.this is a small town bank. I've been with them for twenty plus years.

YA! you know what, murrellington, I do feel almost anxious because I want to get more but then I'm afraid of peoples reaction when I go to pick up coins or to dump. The problem with me is I have been unemployed for 2 months now(got the call I'm back in 2 weeks thank GoD) so I only have a $300 floater that I can use so I can only get that much in coins then I have to return and repeat, so These tellers are seeing me 2 times a week times 3 banks. I just feel awkward but I enjoy the hunt so much, especially since I have the time, And I LOVE when you turn that one coin over and BOOM....SILVER!

Oh, and I ALWAYS, say please and thank-you and try and joke with them and try and make small talk. Don't know if I'm getting the small talk without the "I feel awkward being here" feeling, but I'm always very polite and very friendly.

samsnate: I can identify with that weird vibe you get from the bank tellers. I have picked up rolls of coins from the bank before, but today was the first time I asked for a box of coins. The teller just looked at me...
I have not finished searching the box, but I did find this in a roll and I have no idea what it is... Can someone identify this for me please?

When you buy the mint sets, this comes with it, I believe.

Hey flip, you should make a new topic for your coin, prolly get a lot more looks if you set it up as topic heading. "What coin is this? HELP or something. See you know exactly what I mean too. I want to get a box next week, hope I can come up with the courage to ask. Maybe I should call the day before or something. I just want to make sure its a box of customer wrapped coins so I dont waste my time.

Samsnate, none of the nickel boxes I get are customer wrapped rolls, and I get great finds. Most people on here don't get customer wrapped boxes and have great success, too.

When I was a teller, some of the roll searchers used to bring us fancy cookies from the bakery or boxes of chocolates and the like especially after they found lots of silver. Some tellers will be irritated no matter what you do though, but least show up with a smile to try to get them on the right footing.
