Dave647, dumping where you eat is not proper roll hunting etiquette, even though the bank has no problem with it. Also, you are probably getting alot of your searched coin right back, even after it circulates through the rolling facility.

Most tellers are pretty nice; they love to get rid of odd coins like halves. If they get rude, or have an attitude, then I avoid that branch. Today, I went to a new branch, and the teller said she had some silver, and was glad to hand it over!

Most places here take rolls, since they know another hunter will snap them up. No banks in this area even have coin counters. It always helps to make small talk, too. One teller today was very knowledgable about silver, and could even tell by the sound. Too bad I'm married...

Tellers like familiar customers, we all like familiar people, standing up all day taking and giving money is not that great of a job, it's hard to find a grumpy teller by Friday though. I ignore funny looks, that's just people being immature, sometimes they are curious, or don't know what your up to, I either tell em or they figure it out eventually.

The only time I ever had a bank tell me not to bring back my half dollars from roll searching (i didnt order coins from their branch, but I did have an account with the bank), I told them ok and the next week I brought in 20,000 nickels which took about 45 minutes to count with the machine breaking down three times and the machine filling up 10 times

I go to the same bank 4-5 times a week to get coins and make sure I'm always polite. I know all the tellers and every few weeks buy some chocolates or lollies for them.

One of them collects notes but not coins so if I find any good notes I give them to him and if he find any nice coins he gives them to me.

As lWow as you are polite and maybe give back to them a bit I dont see anything wrong with it.

Don't go when it's busy. Especially never on a Friday. No teller / supervisor wants to have to bend down to lug a bunch of heavy, dusty boxes from the back corner of the vault right before they go off for cocktails. When I can go Wednesday mid-morning I've got the most smiles & friendly help.

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ROLLS! ok maybe not

I've only been up against one teller that was consistently snooty despite how friendly I was. I don't go back there.

Please and thank you seem to do the trick.

I have noticed that young tellers (perhaps new) tend to be nicer.

When, I first started roll hunting, I've felt the same way. Very paranoid on how the tellers felt. Put after a year or two of going to banks, I kinda figured out the best ways to get rolls without being noticeable. I now deposit checks for my brother, since he has a BofA account, so each time I go there, I'll get a box of whatever I'm feeling for. Usually it's penny and nickel boxes. I also work above a korean bank called Hanmi which I do daily deposits for work, so I've gotten to know everyone working there, enough to feel comfortable with getting a box of pennies and a box of nickels. I also pick up lots of quarters, since I own a laundromat, so that's a perfect excuse for me to getting boxes of quarters without questions.

I've noticed that banks are usually very busy on mondays, fridays, and start of each month. They have tons of merchant deposits to handle with on mondays and fridays, while a lot of senior citizens are cashing in their checks at the start of the month. So if anything, if your going to bother them for boxes of coins, I'm sure if you figure out their work schedule and show up when it's mostly slow, most tellers that I've dealt with are fairly nice. Also, telling the truth works, since every so often, you'll meet a teller who's also interested and might be extra friendly/helpful with your needs.

As far are returning the coins, I usually rewrap the bank boxes and trade those in for another one, which is a bit time consuming. I also try to let the teller know the day before, that I'm going to show up to trade a box for another box. So far, it seems when I give them a heads up, they have everything ready for me. I usually don't get customer wrapped rolls since it's harder to carry w/o the box, but when they don't have boxes, I'll usually grab half a box worth. I usually save the unwanted coins from the customer wrapped rolls to replace the ones I've kept from the bank boxes.

I know my way is a bit hard, and you probably can't go through 5+ boxes a week with the way I do it, since I don't break the roll papers, but simply open them up carefully so I could reuse the wrappers and give the box back to the bank, almost looking like I never touched the box. The bank usually doesn't mind, since they'll normally have an opened box behind their counter for normal bank services.

I've read how other's just bag it all up, go to their local bank, dump the coins into a counter, give the slip to the teller, and give that coin amount deposited back into your account. Of course, I've heard these are for only small banks, but living in Los Angeles, I don't think anything like that, exists in my area. Never heard of a coin counter in a bank before and never seen them either. For those of you who do have those in your area, I HATE YOU. Ok, I don't hate you, I'm just super jealous.

Anyways, that's how I do roll hunting and whatnot. I'm sure there's better ways, but this way works for me. I'm sure everyone just has to figure out their own technique, since some have more time then others, with banks that have counts for their customers.

Btw, I've also noticed at some banks, they have these big clear plastic bags that some sell for $5 each. From what I heard, you call full up the bag and just deposit those into the bank...but not sure if it's only for merchant account holders. I guess I could go that way, but then I might go to fast and skip something.

Eupion, you also dump where you eat. You will eventually get your own coin back to re-search. It's not difficult to dump at a different bank or even different branch.
