Used to be people had to go to a bookstore or liberry to half-read a book and figger their common coins are worth a fortune. Now, they can do bad research on their computer and never leave the house.

I got a call from a guy who had a big penny with vdb on one side and an S and 1909 on the other. "I looked it up on the Internet, and it's worth $500-2000."

So I asked if what he meant by "big" was around three inches, and he said yes. I told him coins are coin size, he had a coaster.

I'm water-mellowing in my old age. I used to tell them I couldn't afford it, and recommend a competitor. Share the wealth and all.

I have done some of the sort in the past myself. Not with coins, but when I was recruiting I would send the people with the 8th grade educations who could not pass the mini test in the recruiting office down to see the Army recruiter. After the rocket surgeon would leave, I would get all grades of flak from the Army guys for sending the guy down to them.

The bigger the coin the more it's worth right?

Somewhere I have a huge belt buckle that looks like a bright shiny Roosevelt dime. Maybe I could get a fortune for that you think?

BUT just how do you know that his wasn't a real 09S VDB that got stretched? What if it was in a place where it could have swelled up to that size? What if that is the way the first ones were made but no one knows it? What if that coin passed through a time, space warp and came back as the type of coinage used in another universe?
