Picked up a 1929-S Walking Liberty for my collection yesterday. It has a color to it that I have not seen. I would say the coin has been laying in rusty water by its color. I tried a 10 minute soak in Acetone but it didn't change it. Anyone ever see this before....

Toning-Color?

Toning-Color?

Thanks

Either that or coffee, but I really don't know. Wait for the metallurgists to chime in. I still think it looks good though.

I have never seen a coin tone that way, it almost looks like it has been around sulfur and water.

Its tape residue. Do an overnight soak in the same solution. There's a topic on this already here somewhere, search the forums for "tape".

definately looks like rust stain, try a quick bath in diluted CLR should remove the iron deposit.
