I dunno. The two gold coins are probably worth about $600-700 combined, and I don't really see anything else there that stands out. Even the 1917 SLQ is Type II (according to what's written on the holder), so that's not worth all that much. And everything else appears to be very, very worn.
I would have bid $500-600, tops, because there's nothing there I really need to have and would just be trying to get a bargain.
Yeah... Look at the bidding history. One of the bidders only has a feedback of 4 and after they have pushed the price well beyond what would be normal, they suddenly drop out of the hunt.
So, either these bidders have absolutely no idea what they are doing, they have way to much money or there could be some shill bidding taking place, trying to push the price up on the other bidders. Just my opinion, I could be wrong though...
I think what a lot of you missed was the 1864 Three Cent Silver. They only show one picture of the reverse but it loots AU or better. The Lafayette looks like VF maybe XF. If the gold is real and hasn't been mishandled (the finish on the gold dollar looks odd, maybe like it has been "brushed".) then it doesn't look like that bad a deal at all.
