So I grabbed this nice piece at a real basement price for nice toned coins as it received the code 91 from PCGS (not gradable questionable color), and as we all know this coin in all likely-hood is AT. Again I don't care great price an great looking coin is all I care about, curious what you all think the coin would grade, say if not AT?

Curious if you all like or not, no big deal if not as you are not gonna hurt my feelings as we all like different things and again that is all fine an dandy.....

I hate the term Artificially Toned.
Intentionally Toned, I guess I can understand, I just feel like that label is inaccurate.

Regardless, I love the coin. I would crack it out of that slab and enjoy it for what it is... And not have to stare at "not gradable"

My key for grade on Franklins is the wording on the bell.
Yeah, I know. I'm weird.

I would say AU58 minimum. As for the toning, I have a hard time convincing myself that it is artificial. Looks more like it was caused by being in a cheap Whitman type folder to me.

I'm not a fan of "toning" or any other form of corrosion. I like my coins to be undamaged and bright.

I have no idea if the toning is "natural" or "artificial." I also can't tell the grade from the pictures.

I do know it sure is pretty, though...

The colors look too "dull" to be AT. Normally AT coins are a bright and flashy rainbow.

But I think it'll go AU58

Copy an paste below on info I found on AU state....

"Almost Uncirculated (AU) - Small trace of wear visible on the highest points

AU coins come in AU-50, AU-55 and AU-58. As a novice, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between AU and Unc coins. I know I have trouble a lot of the time. The most important thing in grading an AU coin is to know is where the high points are on a particular coin so that you can look for the minimal wear there. Practice by taking a new coin from the bank, rub it back and forth on your mouse pad vigorously a few times, and see if you can see the wear. Hold the coin nearly sideways in a bright light so that the light reflects at a low angle off the coin. Look for a difference in how the light reflects from most of the coin versus the very highest points. If it doesn't reflect off of the high points the same way as it does from the rest of the coin, then you probably have an AU coin. Note that most AU-58 coins look much better than most MS-60 coins. One of the weird things about coins is that an ugly uncirculated coin often sells for more than a beautiful coin with barely perceptible wear."

Thanks!

Just another way of saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
