A nearby post office has one that's 11 x 11, but that's still not going to fit a monster box (15 x 8.5 x 4.5).

An 11x5.5 will fit a monster box. Think it thru.

Math was never my forte...

No math involved.

5.5>4.5, 11>8.5, and even if the box is only a foot deep, it's open on the back, so a 15" monster box would just stick out 3"

If I ever bought a monster box I would want it delivered in an old wooden chest with all the coins loosely piled inside. Maybe with a few jewels thrown in too. Then again I always wanted my own pirate treasure.

I didn't read through all of the comments so this may be a repeat, but if you buy from APMEX (yes it's a slight premium and expensive shipping) they guarantee their delivery. So the postman can't steal it. I had a similar worry. Also it can't be left at the door, you must sign for it. If you choose not to have it signed for, then you are responsible for it.

I have ordered through APMEX, but the postman still leaves the packages at the door. Regardless, my wife is so paranoid that she is afraid that the postman will figure out what's in the packages and someday break into our house to rob us.

I regularly get orders from APMEX and the mail man never gets me to sign, he just leaves the box. I did order a case of ammo once and when UPS delivered it he said jokingly to me " I guess someone bought up all that gold they are advertising on Tv?" I just said "Nope, it's all lead" He just looked at me funny, got my signature, smiled and left.

Yes what is described makes the actual delivery secure but the delivery person still knows plus the bank is involved with a wire. I just like as few as possible to be aware of what I get and I have never bought that much in value. Just can't trust anyone anymore

Never having used a P.O. box before, I had no idea how deep they are. I guess I was picturing something like 6-8 inches deep, which would leave a 30+ pound box of silver dangling precipitously over the edge. I also didn't even realize they were open in the back, actually. If they are as deep as you say and open in the back, however, I see your point.

I have purchased silver from SilverTowne, Provident Metals, and APMEX and at no time was a box of bullion ever left on the front porch. All of my shipments have required an adult signature or the box was not delivered. Instead, a small form was left saying that they would attempt delivery the next day. I believe that these deliveries can also be picked up at the office of whichever shipper is used if it is not collected at home. Calling them first would be good, though.

As to having boxes left on your porch, APMEX needs to know about this ASAP. If the shipping method they are using is not secure in your area, I am sure that they will choose an alternate shipping method that is secure. The last thing they want is a shipment that gets lost or stolen and an unhappy customer complaining about it on the Internet.

I agree. I purchased from APMEX multiple times, and they are right ontop of secure delivery. If FedEX did not find somebody to sign for the delivery, I would get an email from both FedEx and APMEX the same day notifying me to the failed delivery attempt.

Both FedEx and UPS routinely ring the bell and require a signature. It's just my local neighborhood postman that drops it on the porch. Granted, the porch is enclosed and he stick it inside the screen door so it can't be seen from the street, but he still never bothers to ask for a signature.

As I mentioned before, however, that is not really the concern. My wife is convinced that the postman will eventually figure out (if he hasn't already) that we are receiving shipments of PM and must therefore have some lying around the house somewhere. Which means, of course, that he will eventually be so overcome with greed that he will break into our house to steal it all and kill us in our sleep. This, despite the fact that the postman lives a couple of blocks away, his daughter goes to school with our son, we see him at PTA meetings, etc.

What can I say? My wife is paranoid, but if I want to continue to purchase PM I need to keep her happy...

I don't she's paranoid at all. I read of situations like that of home invasions for theft of PMs. I don't like all the 'extra' people (postman, UPS, bank, neighbors seeing deliveries) knowing or possibly knowing of valuables I may have either. They may not do anything but could tell others that might. Can't trust anyone anymore. Look now Tide is a hot shoplifting commodity!

That's how they load them. Doesn't matter security wise, since the people with access already had access before it was put in the box.

Yes but you never know plus they could figure out contents or make a good guess and look up information for the owner. I know real paranoid but there are many inside thefts and numbers or them are rising

No mailman with any sense is going to risk a good job and possible retirement, plus any future gubmint job, over what might be a bag of wheat cents.

Totally agreed w/ biggfredd.

Barry, if you are not comfortable w/ the way your mailman handle your mail, just talk to him since he's in the neighborhood and you see him often. I am sure he consider his action as a favor to you so you get your stuffs sooner and don't have to go to the post office. My mailman carry my box up stair to my door, ring the door, if I was not there, then he go down stair and put the pink paper in the box then the next day I have to go to the PO and pick it up. The PO close at 5pm and most of the time I don't get home until after 5pm .... so, I am really appreciate the effort of my mailman... they are working hard and would not risk loosing the job (especially in this economy). I am pretty sure he will follow the protocol if that's the way you want it.

OR you can just tell him, whenever there's a package deliver to you, just leave the pink paper in your box and you'll pick it up the next day. Which mean he doesn't have to carry the box around - I believe there's away you can request that w/ your local PO too.

OR you can tell your seller to send the package via FedEx / UPS but not USPS. You may have to do a special request and/or paying extra though.
