I think this is: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...m=616&pos=31

I am thinking of purchasing it from a local shop. Does it look genuine? (I have no reason to believe there is problem; just like to double check with you pros:) Does $125.00 look like a good price?

Sorry pics are not better; done with my iphone.

Hi TJ,

I can't comment on the coin you want to purchase but the coin that you linked from Forvm is a completely different reverse so it would be hard to make any comparison there.

Regards,

I wish I could help regarding authenticity. If the dealer gives a money-back guarantee, I might chance getting it authenticated--because the price is good for the condition. Compare to others on vcoins.

Not and expert at all, but to me the coin looks 100% legit. $125 seems like a decent price.

I also liked the details on this one--for what it's worth.
The only thing that I wondered about was the nose on the portrait, and that groove outlining the profile.

I have only the screen to look at, but it is OK my me as well. Price OK too.

I always check my Sear book references to get a bit of information that might relate to the ancient I am considering to buy.

I usually go to the VCOINS website to check similar coins before buying.
WILDWINDS site also good, but you can't get a price indication from there.

For significantly more expensive ancients I like to have the coin in hand before buying, unless the dealer is of the highest reputation.

Keep all purchase information in a separate place to the collection for all ancients over say, $100 purchase price.

Looks like a nice coin for the price. I would be happy with it.

NOTE: DVCollector's comments are worthy of emphasis.

Not sure about the outlined nose either but I see the same thing in the forum example I posted. I see that almost all of the vcoins examples have cf or ar under the chin. The one I am looking at does not show any writing under the chin. I wonder about that.

Here is a few more to compare:
http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=491986
http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=471109
http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=347243
http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=345811

A couple do not have letters under the chin, but those seem like the lettering could have been left off the strike.

You can see nose outlined like the one I am looking at on a couple of these also. Maybe these had a double strike of the hammer?
