Can someone give me a description of this coin. Also, I would be selling it on ebay (I don't have enough posts top sell it on CCF), so honest opinions on what I can reasonably expect.

It is a provincial coin, I believe the image is Septimius Severus but I'm not 100% sure.

This coin has a nice portrait. I could not find a match to the reverse. How big is it?

It looks pretty close to me. Would it be Septimus severus?

JW, interesting! If I look at it just right, I can see Cybele seated too. Too bad the emperor's name is off the flan. The reverse inscription might be an easy ID for someone...I haven't found a match yet.

The reverse looks similar, it's possible.

Quote: Would it be Septimus severus? If I am correct (and that's a huge "if") it would be Pertinax and more rare and valuable than most Sep. Severus.

The portrait seems to resemble Aelius (136-138AD). I'll try to do more research. Someone will probably come up with something definitive. Interesting coin.

I've been trying to figure out the few letters on the reverse but I'm stumped so far.

The obverse is pretty clear where it says lambda AVP. Before that is AYK or autokrator which is a common title used by most. Neither Pertinax nor Septimius were Lucius Aurelius but this tip should help someone figure out which guys were and limit your searching to them. It sure would be nice to have the next letters on the right where the name that would make it certain used to be.

Could this possible be a "nome" coin of Alexandria?
Trajan, Hadrian or Antonius Pius? Possible Memphites? MEMΊE......
I believe I see an M in the left side faint inscription. But for this theory to hold true, the C in the reverse legend that is visible after the PHI character would actually have to be an E.
I don't know much about nome coins but the designers may have also altered Greek letters a bit to fit their purposes. Also the portrait style is similar to some nomes.
So far I can't find a lot of images for these nome types. Anyway it's just a guess.
