Fun fact about these: this is the first US federal currency design to use the dollar sign. Before this example came out of the woodwork, the only recorded representative of the design type was a two-sided specimen note in the Smithsonian. Several face proofs of the $100 note with coupons also exist in private hands, but no issued examples of any denomination have ever been seen. I think it's a pretty big find.

A $5 1914 FRN with a Red Seal, scarce today because they were quickly discontinued in favor of a blue seal due to the tendency of the red ink to fade over time and bleed when wet.  Edited by Coinfrog

Received as a gift. I realize it's a very common item but I'm grateful for it and I like it and find fractional currency very interesting.   But I don't think it would be a very good idea to let this bug bite me. |

This may not be exactly in theme for this thread but since its ben a little while since it was active I thought I would post couple of unusual pieces that I picked up cheap at my local paper money club fundraising auction.   These are practice MPC notes that Disbursing Officers and clerks would have used to practice working and paying out MPC notes in the field. They could use these without having to account for them if any mistakes were made while training. They appear to be printed around 1964 and if you look closely at the "obligation" section it says they are for use in "accordance with the rules of Monopoly"! |
