Another oldie, dating to just after the Civil War. Francis Spinner, Treasurer of the U.S., deliberately crafted this famous signature as an anti-counterfeiting device. The colors on this note are actually very bright, with blue tints showing clearly on the upper left margin and to the right of the portrait, but this old scanner doesn't pick them up very well.

- it's a real beauty with loads of eye-appeal. I'm sure its much more impressive in hand then on the ol' scanner. I find that to be the case with many older banknotes, especially the larger subtly designed 'horse-blankets.' [Photos nor scans do them justice] Do you have a scan of the reverse you can post?

I just purchased this $2 -2003 Atlanta replacement note (16,000 printed) for, what I thought, was a decent price on an online auction. The S/N was not fancy but the centering was good and I wanted at least one in my collection.

Not a bad pair for the level I collect at. Not quite a new purchase (maybe 2 months ago), but it takes me a while to get around to scanning stuff.
Now I just have to wait until I fine a nice 1905 $20 gold cert at a 90% off sale.
