With regards to poorly cut Confederate currency, poor margin cutting is the norm, not the exception.

At the time, long shears were used to cut out the currency and care wasn't exactly taken to make it all line up.

Thus, today, one of the things I look for to determine the authenticity of a Confederate note is poorly cut margins. Those with perfect margins are suspicious to me until I can find another area to identify it as genuine.

With the amount of notes that had to be cut, I'm sure time did not allow for precise cutting. I'm sure it was a real job signing each note by hand also.

@IndianGoldEagle

Interestingly enough, it actually was a job for many women at the time to sign Confederate notes! The Register and Treasurer often employed a staff of women to specifically sign the notes for them, hence why signatures vary so drastically on Confederate notes.

Thanks Atlas642, that makes sense. I've got allot to learn about Confederate notes and picking up pieces of info here and there makes this field more fun.
