Think of this. The 1916D Mercury dime along with the 1909S VDB Cent are the most counterfeited coins on Earth. Being able to get one in a PCGS slab for that price is really worth it since no matter what, you know it's real. Soooooo many people may say I got one for less but they don't really know if it is real either. Worse yet is those that do and find out later, usually much to late, that they bought a fake.

lol ! buy one from a knowledgeable dealer ! just because its in a PCGS slab doesn't make it real ! there are known fakes that have gotten by PCGS ! every coin dealer in this country probably has at least one. only thing tougher than buying one ... is selling one.

PCGS' guarantee would kick-in in the unlikely event that a counterfiet 1916-D Merc ended up in a genuine slab. You would have no problem getting your money back from PCGS, so there would be no worry in selling it.

Very few dealers have ever seen a fake 1916-D Merc in a genuine PCGS slab and if they ever did, which is highly unlikely, they just need to send it to them.

Every dealer in country has one? No, not hardly.

It's too bad you missed this one. It is very close to a VG8 in my opinion. That is a good price. I hope you find one this nice soon!

Interesting statistics. Where is this from?
Sorry to hear you missed out on that purchase. It was indeed a good buy.

That's not true at all. If the market was that flooded with fake coins in PCGS holders, PCGS wouldn't be delectably the best TPG.

Now, fake coins in fake PCGS holders is a different story. I've seen about 10 of those, but that's from dealing with people who have been coin dealers for over 25 years. And every fake PCGS holder I've seen has its flaws.

Always, if buying online, make sure there is a return policy. After you've received the coins, go to a LCS and get their opinion on the coin and the holder that it is in.

Good luck in your hunt for another '16-D!
