Finished her, but I don't want to crack the slabs. Seems like a poor way to conserve the coins by cracking um, for now I'm leaving her as she sits.

TBK ... very very noce looking set ..
I am with you on the slabs ...
When I first started posting on this set .. my opinion was .. sure I would break coins out of slabs. now I have 50+ slabs .. and have not cracked any of them. I keep thinking I will ..

When I first started scrolling down this thread I thought you were making a joke with "type" set as all I could see was the keyboard in the first pic. Awesome set though! Love those gold pieces, although it will be a while yet before I can start on those.

Those gold coins conserved fine for 100+ years before entering a slab, and there isn't much value difference in those grades between raw and slabbed...I say CRACK UM! Now in MS-64, I wouldn't dare crack. Those are very nice examples by the way, and you have a beautiful set forming, congrats!

Throwbackid: Very impressive, especially in MS60 or better, congratulations! I will just satisfy myself with a denomination set for U.S. gold coins.
Last count I have 37 gold coins, includes 5 ancients - Greek, Roman and Indian, also includes Arabic and milled to have a collection of 10 coins up to A.D. 1800. As you would guess, most of them are machine struck after 1800. European hammered gold is not represented yet, tends to be a little pricey, but continuing to look.
It has taken me nearly 40 years to get thus far. With what I have set myself to collect, I realise that I have to sometimes be satisfied with a lesser condition. Gold is a soft material for coins, and is more sensitive to damage over the centuries.
For a consistent presentation of the coins pictured, it may be worthwhile protecting them all in screw capsules. The capsules could then be placed in a velvet lined case. The capsules are inserted in a velvet lined 3mm thick plastic sheet made to take the capsules. I have used a recycled metal case for proof coins and individually sized capsules in this way for some of my collection.
Each capsule can then be handled without any risk of damage to the coin.
Photograph each slab individually for record purposes, before cracking them.
