Does anyone remember a UK dealer called Cliff Hanson who ran a worldwide mail order service for many years with monthly lists until the mid-nineties? He also attended many fairs in London.

I got to know Cliff very well and we became friends; he is an extraordinarily knowledgable man, and specialised in finding unusual and interesting coins and tokens, as well as new issues, and pieces from hard to find countries. His prices were always very reasonable, yet if you sold him a coin he gave a very fair price.

I learned a great deal from Cliff about coins and tokens; his knowledge was so extensive it often left me awestruck how he could retain so much information about so many numismatic subjects at the same time.

Perhaps the most important thing he taught me was to understand which coins were undervalued in the catalogues.

Unfortunately Cliff suffered a period of illness in the mid-90's and decided to retire. Since then I have lost contact with him.

I would love to hear from anyone who knew and respected him as much as I do.

I also knew and respected Mr. Hanson. Around 1970 I used regularly to toddle along to the coin market under Charing Cross station on Saturday mornings, and his offerings were always among the best.

Later, after I moved away from London, I received his monthly mail-order lists, which were always full of interesting world-coin items, many of which I bought.

Over the years I must have purchased thousands of coins from him. (And never any problems.)

So I simply agree with everything member Blair says.
