20 Piastres 1916 Two Dates ? - Coin Community Forum

Imasnore Valued Member Canada 360 Posts	Posted 03/15/2012 11:27 pm I can not read Isalmic script for dates but I think there are two different dates on each side of this coin. Which one is the correct date 1916 or am I mistaken ? Please advise. Report this Post to the Staff

ZiggyZ Valued Member United States 162 Posts	Posted 03/15/2012 11:37 pm Yes, the date of the coin is 1916 AD, or 1335 by the Muslim calendar, which is the number printed right next to it. The number on the other side is 1333, which is the year Hussein Kamil, in whose name the coin is issued, became Sultan. Edit: great minds, and whatnot. When travelling through the Middle East three decades ago, a 10 year old schoolboy taught me how to read arabic numbers scratched into beach sand on the Southern shore of the Caspian Sea in Iran.
