Ok so I might be getting interested in VAMs....

@ SuperDave: It took me a while... but now the VAM 11 you pointed out to me is really obvious.

As for this 1878, the die chip on the nose is a VAM-2a correct?

What about the clash on the "O" on the reverse, is that anything? is that even a clash?

The mark on the 1878 cc by and on the "O" is post mint damage, something hit the coin and dinged it. Yes it's a vam-2a.

Ok, so would I be correct in saying VAM 11 and VAM 2a are two of the easier VAMs to spot?

Yes, by comparison to the thousands of known VAMs. They both have "smoking gun" attributes which make the job easy. There are a few hundred (I'm guessing) which are this easy.

I may be missing something but I'm not seeing VAM-11 in the original posted photos. Is this the same coin?

I'm with you now. You have an NGC holder VAM-2A and an OGP VAM-11. Very nice.
