Can someone tell me if the mint has released a 2007 1 ounce gold Buffalo similar to the 2006? When if ever will it be released?

I am knew to collecting and I am anxious to get a companion to the 2006 MS70 First strike I recently aquired.

The US Mint website has this info in it's product release schedule. It looks like April to answer your question.

henry95401, welcome to the board!

Don't concern yourself with getting a 2007 "first strike" due to the fact that it is just a marketing gimmick. The US Mint does not release coins in the order of mintage and anyone that says otherwise is lying. A couple of the slabbing services are being sued for false advertising over this and have changed it to "early release" or "early strike". Those terms are still irrelevant and should be ignored.

The US Mint has a Consumer Awareness Bulletin on their website dealing with this issue:http://www.usmint.gov/consumer/inde...ion=HotItems

click the link and scroll down a couple paragraphs to see it.

BTW, since you are fan of the 24kt Buffalo, the US Mint will be releasing fractional pieces this year as well (1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 oz.)

No need to be anxious. That's a common coin and there will be plenty to go around way into 2008. You have time. Don't waste your money on firststrike, early release ..that all BS for the price of a MS70 slabbed you can almost buy 2 ounces raw.

The fractionals will only be hot if they are unc finish ...if proof, they will be nasty. No one in their right mond would buy a proof buffalo ...so I got 2 of them :)

Hi again everyone !! I really like this forum I must have spent over 3 hours just going doing some research and trying to become more educated.

I am thinking of added the ultra cameo proof (?) 1 oz gold
buffalo coin.....it would be an ms70 just as my regular 1 oz buffalo previously purchased..i figure it would be a nice addition....i see it can be gotten for around $1200 + on ebay...should I hang on and keep looking? what would be a good price to get it for if I see one?

thanks..

Henry, I strongly urge you to do due diligence before deciding that MS70/PF70 coins are worth the amazing premium over coins of lesser grade. Using just NGC and the 2006 Gold Eagle as an example, NGC has, as of today, graded 3016 coins of 9867 submitted as MS70. That's almost one-third. All but one of the rest are MS69.

I'm just going to link you to NGC's Proof population page, because I am discouraged just reading it. Note that PF70's outnumber PF69's in some varieties, and that out of 20,000 2006 $50 Eagles graded, only twenty graded less than 69, and that the only coins not given the Ultra Cameo designation were the Reverse Proofs.

Is that worth the significant premium between 69 and 70? I don't know. Not in a million years for me, maybe for you. I'm not objecting to your choice of how to spend your money; I just want to see you making an informed decision and as an admittedly-new collector, I don't believe you have all of the information yet.
