I am in love with nickles. Have another box on the table now. Problem ... I am not sure if I am doing / looking at everything right. I pull all 1960 nickles and before ... just because. Also pull the 82's. But beyond that ... I'm not sure what to do. Read an article here on forum about someone collecting (I think) 1962's. Why is that? Is there something I should be looking for that is not inside the Red Book? Julie

Julie, Going strictly by date gets, well, boring. The '62 & '62Ds have double-dies. Your on the right track with the '82s, Both P&D as well as both mints of '83. In a 2 wk. period, my daughter (with a little help) sold 2 rolls of '83Ds for 46.59 & 36.00. Her roll of '82Ds went for 44. Check out completed listings. Very soon she'll have the Ps, there's the $$. '09s, always pull. Someday soon even scruffy rolls will go over big. I'd scream through nearly 2 boxes a day, but now that I've really been familiarizing myself with CONECA and others, a box is a challenge. Frankly, lugging around canvas bags was getting stale. And the help & knowledge here is immeasureable. Good luck & check this out. http://varietyvista.com/CONECA%20Ma...Listings.htm

Nice to see you here Julie. You've come to the right place to ask questions. There are many people here that can answer any you may have. By the way, the correct spelling for the type of coin you are collecting is "nickel". peter

That is only true if you collect Nickels. If you collect Nickles, then that is what you collect. As to what to look for, not all error coins are listed in the Red Book. Check out all of them front and back for errors. Error coin collecting can be fun. Eventually try to buy an Album to put those in and you'll find you need all of them. And if you find a Liberty Head Nickel or Nickle, dated 1913, send it to me. I'll even pay postage.

So to clarify, the '82s and '83s have DDs as well?

Fred ... I found a couple already from 82d/, so as a newbie myself ... I'd say yes. My issue, the magnifying glass being used is not the best to make me feel confident in my find, so it is to the bookstore tonight to buy some better eyes. Will also look into albums, those cardboard thingy's to store the ... coins ... and perhaps a Webster dictionary. Julie

It is amazing how much help everyone has been! Thank you for all those links! WOW! I went back and HELLO! Look at those mistakes. Now to figure out how to get some photos up to make sure what I am seeing is really there. Very excited! :D Those old coins ... bet you are filled with all kinds of goodies. Found lots of DD with the 82's according to the links provided. Maybe you shouldn't listen to someone who has a total of 3 or 4 posts.
