Well, I decided to finally try the 105mm Printing-Nikkor with the T2i. Here is the result on one of my 57-D Toners..Ray

Edited to add:

Top pic is with my "smile directors" placed in their usual location. Lens at f2.8, 3 image stack.

Bottom pic is with un-diffused Jansjos plus a white reflector card. Lens at f5.6, single image.

Which lighting arrangement do folks like best?

The bottom image is clearer at the rim at the cost of a little bit of contrast, although shooting/stacking it at the wider aperture might help sharpness. I still like it the better of the two because of the clarity at the rim.

From a strict sharpness/color/contrast standpoint, the top image is superior.

Yeah, the stacking helps the sharpness on the top image. The 105PN at f2.8 and appropriate stack produces the sharpest coin image I know how to produce. I'm thinking of trying a combo of the two techniques, maybe a single image using f4.7 instead of f5.6, smile directors, and a reflector to brighten up the top of the coin. Something to do after work tonight...Ray

Truth? I think it's a step backward. It blew out the highest features. Not thst I have an answer, but rest assured I'm looking and thinking.

Yeah, it's a compromise shot. Too wide an aperture to have full DOF, and it shows. The main advantage of the 105PN over the 75ARD1 in sharpness only comes about at wide apertures, and to take full advantage the image must be a stacked composite. Maybe I'll try a direct comparison between the two. Now that I have the T2i on the bellows, the inherent fuzziness due to the D7000 shutter vibration that plagued my earlier comparisons is gone and perhaps another shootout is in order...Ray
