That 2 francs reminded me.
An interesting sideline to collecting World coins is to build a type set of the coins of the
Latin Monetary Union. I have done this for the 2 Francs denomination, and similar coins of the same weight and diameter.

A complete set of all denominations of the LMU would make an even more interesting collection, even excluding the gold coins.

I wonder why the LMU failed, and if the EEC will survive?

That sounds interesting! By the way I know LMU but I ve never seen the coins before. Now I searched for it and they look pretty nice. Emperor heads and coat of arms. As far as I know the pope broke the union. The economic impact of religion in Europe is undeniable.
