Good Afternoon,

Recently the coin club I attend had the VP of ANACS come and talk about their company and services. He stated that they were number 3 in the coin grading market and my question is does anyone know why? Let's say hypothetically speaking that I have 2 coins all of the same type and grade meaning they are identical. If I get them graded and one is in a PCGS holder and the other one is in an ANACS holder the PCGS coin will sell for more is that correct? If so why?

If I have a certified coin chances are I will not sell it but if I do and I know I will eventually sell it before I get it certified do I want to go through PCGS to ensure I get the highest price? If I go through ANACS will potential buyers see that ANACS holder and pass on the coin based solely on that?

I prefer to purchase the holders, based on appearance, from 1.)NGC then 2.)PCGS and then 3.)ANACS. I don't think that it has to do with the grading standards.

When I submit my raw coins, I prefer ANACS, since there are no additional fees to pay to join their club.

I just don't care for the newer ANACS slabs,

and they are easily broken into with a flat edge of anything. I prefer the older white slabs from ANACS.

Anacs is #3 based only on sales. Period.
They are the oldest of the top 3 TPG's and have the most experience.
They have held their grading standards over the years.
Many say they are conservative. No, just dead on.
PCGS is out to make money only. Their grades are all over the place. Most are over graded. Yes, they get more for their slabs but after a while that will change. NGC is much better than they used to be as far as standards. I use both NGC and Anacs depending on the type of coin. Every coin I have sent to NGC came back exactly as I had graded it myself first. Anacs came back a tad lower than my own. But that was yrs. ago and I have much better grading skills now. So all in all they were dead on at the time. With Anacs anyone can send in a coin. No need to join any club etc. or have to go through a dealer. I personally only slab upper end coins for auction sale. Not mentioning any names
but I prefer one particular auction house. They give you a great deal on the slab if you consign with them. They handle everything. Other than that, buy the coin not the holder. As far as holders go I do not care which one looks the best just the one that keeps the coin high and dry and viewable. And also rugged and the least scratch resistant.

As for PCGS and NGC coins selling higher than ANACS, some of it has to do with registry sets. Neither NGC nor PCGS allows ANACS in the registry competition. This causes some collectors to demand the other 2 over ANACS. With this said the old adage is to buy the coin not the holder. If an ANACS coin is properly graded and selling for a discount to others, you may have found a bargain.

That is probably exactly what keeps the numbers as they are. NGC will allow PCGS and NGC coins in their registry and they are #2 and PCGS only allows PCGS coins in their registry and they seem to be able to keep the #1 slot even though their grading standards has been all over the map. It can't be because one is more strict than the other so the buyer thinks ones MS-63 will be superior to the others MS-63 graded coin of the same type because I have in my collection some ANACS coins that look better than the other 2 companies coins in two grades higher slabs

I like ANACS better for error coins. I like PCGS better for patterns. I dislike the new ANACS holder - you just can't photograph the front of them and have the entire thing be in focus. I guess they didn't think of that detail.
