Hey guys newbie here. I have a question for you guys. I bought two 25th Anny ASE Sets. When I open them up to view the coins there is a horrible smell. Probably from the lacquer from the box. Anyway can this do anything to the coins? What have you guys done with yours? Keep them out of the Government packaging?

Let them breathe...they will air out...don't crack open the capsules though.

I just opened up my set to check (for about the hundredth time) and I did not notice a smell just holding it. However, if I put my nose up close and took a good sniff, I think I know what you mean. However, I kind of like the smell. But I also like the smell of fresh paint. Since I really like the packaging, I would never consider taking the coins out permanently (or getting them slabbed). However, you could leave it open in a cool and dry place to air it out. Moist or hot temperatures are not good for coins.

It's the smell of MONEY!

I love the smell the 25th sets give off. It has toned down a bit since they were new.

Perhaps someone can bottle the "smell" into a cologne. Only numismatists would get it (understand it) though.

Market it " ASE 25"

It is a nice smell, at least I thought so. It is paint I believe.

The box is supposedly lacquered wood, although it kinda ended up looking like plastic. I hope it doesn't fog up my coins...
