A "peeling check" is a type of token, used in food canneries and such places. If you google the exact phrase, you'll find plenty of similar items for sale and being discussed.
I don't know how the token system worked; I assume it's for workers who were doing piecework, peeling and processing fruit and/or vegetables. The more boxes (?) you processed, the more tokens you received, and the more you would be paid. Or it could have been used as a means of keeping track of who had which piece of equipment.
