Hello everyone, my first post. I'm struggling to find an exact match of this coin online. I believe it might be authentic, but with my extremely limited knowledge I'm just not sure. I don't think it's a cast since there are small flan cracks that cross over, but it's amazingly well shaped and that gives me concern. What's really throwing me are the surface cracks. I would appreciate any input or opinions from the experts here in the community. Do you see any tell-tale signs of it being a fake and are those cracks normal? And lastly, has anyone seen this coin before? Thanks!

Your coin is based on this one:

Unfortunately as you can see there are big differences in the styles of these two examples.

You may be correct that it is not cast but it is still unfortunately a reproduction of some kind. Its likely to have been made to be sold to tourists in Italy or as a give-away in a magazine, these seemed to be popular a few decades ago.

You were right to be concerned about its excellent shape, again this is something that points to a modern production technique. I'm not sure how the surface cracking has been caused.

I appreciate the quick responses! The good news is that I found it on the ground some 30 years ago while travelling, so no harm - no foul. It's nice to know one way or the other. Now I can just enjoy it as a fun keepsake. Thanks guys!

It's alright - pile on. I had my suspicions all along. I'm just happy to know definitively.

The coin may be a fake, but the warm welcome from everyone makes up for it! Glad I joined.
