The destruction of the coin is extremely selective; hard to screw up the text, but not the rim...

anyways, what do you think? If it was a die cast error, I would assume it would be known by now. But since I'm a newbie, and curious...and not that knowledgable in the world of US coins and VAMs...please enlighten me

Looks like plain destruction. Scraped, I think. VAMs, by the way, are the varieties of Morgan and Peace dollars and not other coins.

hmm...So I guess I learned something new today....thanks. A day I learn something new is a good day. No matter the subject.

On the other hand, it sucks, since I had a good deal going on. Oh well.

thanks again SuperDave

that is an ex jewelry piece, once had a pin on the back. instead of trying to explain i'll just alter your pic. would have had a pin soldered to one end, then a clasp soldered at the other end that could be opened (the two "damaged areas" are what remains of the solder after the pin was removed) kind of like a modern day pin button. fairly common on Seated coins.
