No, there's not. The first $1 gold was minted in 1849. There are no pattern coins of that date, either.

Is it still gold? I've watched a couple of his videos and he seems to be buying stuff at random not knowing the prices. Which is fine but I suspect he isn't getting deals and is probably paying high prices. I also think he is starting out because he think some nickels are 90% silver. I have been sending him messages explaining some things to him and doesn't seem to care and is being rude about it.

There's no way of knowing if it's gold; highly unlikely. This person is probably throwing money away as fast as he can. You should direct him to this thread.

Well, unless he is properly educated on what to buy and what not to buy (and that does not come overnight), he will continue to waste his money. He has to drop his guard and be open to suggestions or he will fall hard.

Ill do that Dave. But he did buy a nice 1/10th oz (gold) maple leaf. not sure how much he paid.

I've tried to tell him about the gold. He has some nice coins but the prices are probably through the roof.

Those can be had for less than $200, as an FYI.

I know dave Its impressive for a 11 year old. I'm pretty sure with his own money too. I'm a "couple" years older and no gold in my collection
