Over the past few months I have been saving and rolling up quarters until I had amassed about 20 rolls of quarters and had started considering on putting together a set of circulating Statehood Quarters. I had already purchased a Whitman Statehood Quarter album for just the P & D mints. So after I got a little bored on the Jefferson circulating set, I decided today to tackle this project. At first I thought that there was no way that I had enough Statehood Quarters in those rolls to make an appreciable dent in the album. After all I needed 112 quarters.

But I was amazed at the success that I had. By far the most luck I had was with the "P" mintmark. I got them all with the exception of New Jersey, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. I did slightly worse with the "D" mintmark. I just need Missouri, California, Oregon, Nebraska, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

So I need to find only 14 more coins to complete this project. I feel confident that I will be able to pull these from the wild. Don't know how long it will take me, but I feel that it can be done.

What do you think the possibility that I can get a complete San Francisco set (clad and silver) just from roll searching?

While searching the rolls that I had set aside, I found that I had 10 ATB Quarters so now I'm setting those aside against the possibility that I can do the same thing there with the "P" and "D" mintmarks. Sometime this week I will go to my lcs to see about getting a similiar Whitman folder for those coins. But I will have to wait for another 12 years to go by before I can see some results.

I personally think that the Whitman albums is an affordable way to put together a circulating set. However, who knows if I'll not transfer them into another album or not. I will say this though, they are compact and are easily stored.

You would have to get very, very lucky with someone dumping a clad 50 State Quarter set that's not impaired, either by a coin counter machine at a bank or through a Coinstar machine by virtue of not knowing what they have or by outright theft. The clad set retails for $80.00-$85.00 against a face value of $12.50, as far as the silver set goes, they run $350.00 and up, but you can find the odd proof here and there, but you would probably have to wade through a entire lifetime's worth of CRH in order to get most of the proofs. You would probably do better to find a popular DDO or key coin and trading for a set.

Very nice!

I do not think you will have as much success withe proofs, so you will probably have to buy those.

Agree with others, S mint marks won't be easily found circulating. Plus that they are moderns, most people that do not collect coins will never get a hold of them.

Making a full set of State Quarters is certainly manageable. All you need is patience and a good eye to weed out the barely circulated ones.
