I know, YMMV and all on price lists. But I am surprised at the major ( > 50% ) difference in the two major TPG retail list price ( they call it FMV but it is retail ) lists for this one coin I am interested in.

A 1911 $10 indian gold eagle MS63 lists for $1270 on PCGS, which is the same that the "most common date 1932 and 1926 MS63's" go for. While NGC/Numismedia lists that same coin at $1970 but 1932/26 at $1420 in that grade. So NGC seems to think it is pretty far higher in value than the most common dates but PCGS has it no different than those plentiful date 63s.

I understand that 5%-10% differences or a bit more are pretty common, but that one is rather radical IMO. 1270 vs 1970. That is > 55% more actually.

Is it some weird "counting/submission anomoly"? Seems out of place.

take such discrepancies with a grain of salt- many of these listings are not "scientifically" tabulated or frequently updated.

premium coins tend to sell better than list- B and C type coins for the grade- tend to do worse.

Another reason is they probably base a significant amount of these prices on recent aucion results, and it is quite possible that a PCGS one in that grade just hasn't been seen at auction for a while or very little...

As long as all the Buffalos are chiming in:

The only way to really be sure about prices is to use a variety of resources including talking with people at coin shows, using online(including past sales on ebay even though they are often inflated) and paper resources and utilizing the greysheet.

Always remember that all price GUIDES are exactly that, GUIDES. There is no manufacturers list price on coins. All coins are really worth what is posted on the coin itself. A Dime is worth 10 cents as noted on the Dime. Therefore, anyone person or company can say a Dime is worth a million dollars and there guess is as good as yours.
Sort of makes people wonder all the time where all those silly prices come from.

Don't lose sight of the fact that each and every one of those lists is published by someone with an agenda, a personal interest in the existence of that list. Which of those agendas are altruistic? If any?

I dunno. That's why, if you ask me, I'll never be able to quote you a coin price from a published list. I can quote you a price on just about any coin out there, in any grade, but only from published results of real-world sales to people who actually spent the money in the recent past.

Heritage has several that have sold in the past few months and they are all over the board in prices. Both of those lists are updated pretty often so I don't think it is a "stale" issue with this coin and grade.
