I hope I am in the right room for this. as some of you know I have been reading and studying a lot of my new found hobby. I want to step it up and try to find a coin workshop ( if there is such a thing ). I am not looking for anything hardcore, just a simple intro course on u.s. coins , what questions to ask, look for in detail,if it is not graded go with my gut of what grade it can be. I don't always want to buy coins that are graded. I just want to have fun and not get burned in the process.

latebloomer - in addition to ANA, check out any local coin shows - dealers there may know of workshops and if it's a big enough show, there may be some at the show in adjacent rooms.

Local coin club meetings also offer a venue for "hands on" experience and the opportunity to talk in person to specialists and veteran collectors about their passion. They might also hold workshops and similar functions at their meetings. Each club is different, so if there are several in your area, check each one out.

It may be worth investigating on the net for web based numismatics education short courses. I would think it is likely that a college or a university could offer a distance education short course in numismatics via the net or correspondance. Numismatics is a huge subject. If you find a course, check out the syllabus to see if it serves your interests.

I suspect your in a coin workshop now. Here you can ask anything about anything. Members post photos of coins you may want to see. You can post photos of any coins you have and ask questions about them. You can ask for details, photos, history, books to buy, where to sell, what to sell and on and on and on. If this isn't a coin workshop, what is?

The ANA Summer Seminar is one of the best weeks you will ever spend I guarantee that! I''ve been to more than 8 of them now, and wish I could afford to go every year - both weeks! The ANA shows also have seminars, I would look into grading course, counterfiet dection course, and any other one that hits your interest. http://www.money.org/Content/Naviga.../default.htm
