Well, I can't be surprised that it's happening. There will still be billions of the older cents in circulation, so that should be good until most of our dying days. The US just stopped their dollar program for regular circulation, so it will only be a matter of time before they decide to act on the cent cancellation. Maybe when the deficit reaches into the trillions?

By the way, I had moved this to the 'Canadian Coins, Bank Notes, and Paper Money' forum, but moved it back.

I want to make sure the US members see it.

I have no arguments to make about this. I don't mind whether they stop or don't stop making cents (as long as they keep making them for sets).

Sort of no real problems with them doing that. However, I do sort of collect them when I get them in change I always keep them. Being so far away from there makes getting one in change rare. I probably wouldn't notice if they did stop making them but being a coin collector, I would like to have them continue so I could at least find one in change.

Man I was planning on heading over the boarder to grab a box. I guess I need to do that sooner than later.

What excess copper? By the time the mint actually STOPS making the penny, I'll have melted it all.

I think they are smarter than we are.

It's been in the trillions for a few years now. And I am talking about the annual budget deficit, not the national debt.

I did not notice this other topic in the 'Canadian Coins, Bank Notes, and Paper Money' forum, posted about 25 minutes before this one.

The penny is finally toast

In an effort to keep the conversation in one place, please continue discussing it there.
