I found this penny the other day, and it appears to have part of the Lincoln Memorial plastered to Lincoln's head. (I'm sure he would have been thrilled with that...). I was wondering if it's just a piece of resin or something squeezed between two pennies or if its an actual error/product of the mint. Here are some pics... Thanks :)

That would be a glue job. Two coins glued together then separated, leaving the glue and impression on one of the coins behind.

ah, I see. And what would be the purpose of that?

As for the purpose of it, it could be anything. I remember in elementary school we used to glue them to the floor and watch kids try and pick it up.

Wish I could take a pix of a cent that I found going thru some 200 dollars worth a guy gave to my daughter at the bank. There must have been too much pressure some way as the building on the back of the coin can be seen by looking at the front of the coin.

Hi Tom There is a variety known as jail house lincolns that give the impression of Lincoln behind the pillars looking like he is in jail,, these are the result of clashed dies. there are also obvious fakes of these coins many of them floating around which are made by squeezing Two Cents together,, your coin cannot be judged one way or the other without seeing it . So what you are saying is the top and bottom die actuall touched as there was no metal for either to hit?

doclongo -you should start your own error thread. It looks to me like a blank cent planchet. Is it the same size as a penny?

I've been trying that for years and all I get is smashed coins. Must be a secret method.
