Ok fellows..
the seller finally got back to me...
he agreed that the coin has been dipped and maybe also slightly polished
He does not think it is a fake, as he received it 8 years ago from a then very old old collector who apparently had it for many years.
I will now not buy the coin.
Thank you all for your input

Nice coins, the subject coin I find suspicious, but I am not to familiar with some varieties ,but the hair by the ear is strange. All the others in your picks and a quick look at charltons, the hair by the ear curls back away from the ear. On this coin it points straight down. ?

@ coincollect1,you were looking in the right place to start. As a rule recent Canadian fakes are clones of genuine coins, only the date is changed to mislead the innocent. For example the fakers will take an 1898 50cent,clone it and change only the date and mintmark to suit their market. If the date font, size or spacing doesn't match any known coins then the odds are great the coin is a fake.

DBM, you are so right to a point..
In China they just simply produce any coin in their coin factory... oh yes.
