I have recently joined the stamp forum, however I have had this New Zealand $5.00 note since late 1980's its distinct and stood out so I kept it. I show another $5.00 note for comparison however this is a more recent issue. Anyone able to give me any advise on this? It appears to me to be heavily inked or double printed maybe.

One's polymer and the other is paper - is that the difference that you are asking?

No, its the intense blue shading,I remember at the time comparing it to the same vintage notes as being very unusual. I put it away and forgot about it - its probably not right to compare the two notes.

I agree, you should be comparing your paper 5 dollars with another one. In the standard catalog, the back of the 1992-97 paper 5 dollars is described as:
Brown and blue. Flora with Yellow-eyed Penguin at center.
Here is a picture of it:

the back of the (19)99: (20)04: (20)05 polymer 5 dollars is described as:
Flora with Yellow-eyed Penguin at center.

The colours appear to vary. So, I tried to compare your paper note with other paper notes I found on ebay here:

and the blue does seem to be more intense. However, you would need to find out how uncommon it is to have intense blue shading on these notes and then you may have something. You did right in holding on to it :)

Thanks Baanos, Your research is most valuable, I remember at the time I had lots of notes to compare it with and it stood out like a beacon. I'l try and track down a coin and note dealer locally and try and and establish its rarity before putting it up for auction.

Thanks again.
