Please to report that I have finally put together a complete 50-coin MS type set of classic USA silver commemorative. This has been a very pleasurable journey ... filled with learning and the joy of the search.

This Cincinnati was the last coin needed for my basic set ... PCGS MS66/CAC. Lovely.

Finally-...-Basic-Classic-MS-Set-Is-Complete

The best advise I could give to someone contemplating this set would be to know yourself and your standards well enough that you can define the 'goal' at the beginning.

My self-learning was more organic, and evolved over time as I learned about the coins and what appealed to my eye. A consequence of that nature of growth is that I have nine upgrades that I wish to make to the set ... so you'll continue to hear from me as I search for the needed coins.

I'm not in a hurry to find them ... and will hold out for the exact coins that satisfy my eye ... no worries ... however long it takes.

I hope that when I am done ... and my set is eventually passed along ... the lead-in comment is "This collector searched for and put together a well-matched set of quality coins."

Many Thanks to all of you for your support, comments and cheers along the way.

David

First, let me say "Congratulations!" on reaching this major achievement! You must feel great!

From the examples I have seen, you have assembled an amazing set of coins that any collector would be proud to own. Your attention to detail during your search for the coins and determination to select only those coins that meet your high standards/requirements is quite admirable.

It is also clear to me from your posts that you are a very knowledgeable student of the series and enjoy the story of each coin. I believe this is incredibly important if one is to get the most out of his or her collection. Where's the enjoyment in focusing on and worrying about potential future profits? I'm sure when you look at your collection you remember the hunt for each coin and the great feeling you had when you found the "right" one -- I doubt you spend your time calculating the difference between your purchase price and what you believe you can sell it for currently. Too many collectors seem to miss this element of the hobby, I think it's a shame. I'm glad you're not one of them!

Again, "Congratulations!" -- now sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

PS Absolutely terrific Cincinnati!

... I haven't seen you post one coin that wouldn't be wanted by someone else, and some of them are honestly the finest specimens of a series that I have seen... Brilliant work and congrats

Congratulations!

I think a recap is in order. A simple group shot would be most fulfilling.

Fabulous accomplishment!
How long did it take from the first time you decided to try to achieve this goal?

Very impressive accomplishment and many congrats!

So how many years did it take? What would a typical set in low MS grades like that cost to complete?
