I think you will find that these are savings bonds, not paper money.

It is a "Thrift for National Construction" savings bond for 10,000 yuan ("dollars") issued jointly by the Central Trust Bureau, the Bank of China, and the Bank of Communications.

Unfortunately, the bond was not flat when you photographed it and parts of it, including the date, are too blurred for me to read.

The bond was issued sometime during the 1940's.

I did a quick search of Chinese websites to see if I could find a specimen of your bond. I was not successful but the second bond at this website is similar to yours except for the denomination (50 yuan).

Also, if you look at the fourth bond from the top at this Chinese website, you will see the top portion of your 10,000 yuan bond.

Blowski, since you didn't get an answer before, it's entirely possible nobody knew what they are worth. Now that it's been almost 2 years someone who hasn't seen this before may know, though, so give it some time. Your best bet would probably be to look at ebay completed listings and see if any of these have sold.

Since these are "bonds" and not "banknotes", they're not listed in the banknote catalogues, and the number of people who actively collect them is much smaller. I'm not aware of any kind of price guide published for Chinese bonds; if there is such a reference, it is in Chinese.

But to give some indication of their possible value, Lot 156 listed here is a set of 12 different bonds issued in this same series, that sold at a Hong Kong auction in 2012 for HK$900 (about Au$130) against a HK$700 estimate. That's about $10 each. Yours is a higher face value than any of the bonds in that lot, so yours may be a little more, but I wouldn't expect much above $20.

So obviously I can't take them to the bank and get the money?
