Very pretty and valuable! Nice nuggets! I really like the quartz piece with the imbedded gold. How much do these nuggets weigh?

I have found that the selling price of small nuggets at gem and mineral shows is around twice the bullion value by weight, as if they had been refined.
The biggest gem and mineral show in the World is in Tucson Az, and goes for a week.
When I 'go for gold' at these events, I am after golden yellow sapphire faceting rough. Makes fabulous gems for rings. Most ot the material that I facet comes from Anakie, in Central Queensland.

Those nuggets look amazing! I've not added to it in years but I still have a nice (if modest) mineral collection. I obviously need to start looking around for some nice gold and silver bearing mineral specimens as a tie-in with my PM purchasing.

I saw this awesome 1.5 oz nugget at a show that I wanted bad but I have no idea how to tell if they are real. Those look awesome it truly gives you gold fever

thanks for all the kind comments! I'm just happy to add a crystal gold or wat ever they call it to the collection... I believe its the rarest form?

I love those, nothing better then pure gold in its rawest form. Like TBK said, easy to get gold fever looking or holding such items....
If I was a young man an did not have a family an baby on the way, I would love to go up to Alaska an work my way into the Bering sea gold dredging, where they dive for it an vacuum it up off the bottom of the ocean. That would be an amazing an addictive way to make a living, even if you just averaged four ounces per dive. At these market prices that adds up real fast....

How do you determine authenticity? Bite down on it and then measure the depression?

Figured as much, Hawk. I was just curious if there was a method that wouldn't cause permanent damage. Experts in the trade probably just know what they're looking for and have no problem spotting fakes. But for the rest of us...

If you've got access to a local college or university with a geology department, you could probably get some very reliable (and free) information on your nugget or gold-bearing mineral sample. I wouldn't ask about value, since that might not be seen as interesting or relevant. With anything free you often get what you pay for. However, rock hounds love to talk about rocks so I bet you at least get a good discussion out of the deal. |
