Hate to see this thread come to an end, in the last thiry days I seen every coin that I want to have in my collection. I have just under six hundred ancients in my collection and none are of the quality than what I've seen in this thread. Congrats on a fantastic collection.

Quote: The part that you are probably interested in is: Country: eastern Mediterranean area (Egypt or Syria) DVC => so your other expert basically said the exact same thing, correct? Isn't it reassuring that both experts came to the same conclusion--a "Levantine" origin for this owl tetradrachm? It's worth sending this to David Sear to know for sure! And, I'm glad that what I noticed didn't indicate a modern forgery but a contemporary imitative type--I learned something too, nice coin!

That's a really nice coin. One day I'll get a Roman Republic coin as well. They are just too expensive for my budget, unfortunately. lol Or you can fall off the wagon again and collect a Roman Imperial emperor set. lol A good deal of them are much more affordable. That's what I'm doing. Just trying to give you more reasons to stick around, friend. The post was a lot of fun for everyone.

Both of those are really nice! Those two are also an interesting contrast of style and die-making between Greek and Roman coins. Tool marks are more obvious on the republican coin--and they possibly re-used design elements such as the caps and leaves on the wreath--perhaps these were punches used on the die?

"M FONTEI CF behind"
Note that the coin reads as you listed the type MN rather than M. It is another ligate form like the NT on this coin. Nice coin.
How long can you stay 'on the wagon'?

Wow over 10,000 hits on one thread. I believe this is the most hits on a single thread in the ancients section ever. As I said earlier beautiful coins.
