Im going to eventually go through some boxes of half dollars and I was wondering what people are looking for when they search through half dollars. Also is a box of half dollars $500?

I think most people search for silver which was 1970 and prior. People also search proof and silver proof coins. Also NIFC (not intended for circulation) coins. Or other low mintage halves. Maybe someone else can help add to the list, but these are the most common.

And yes a box is $500

Anything 1970 and older = silver
1987 P & D were not intended for circulation so keep these
2002 - current were not intended for circulation either
Some people put 2001D in the above category as well ("NIFC")
Any silver proof coin (1992 - current)
Silver clad coins from 1976
Clad Proof coins are fun to look for and keep but don't have much added value as people expect proof coins to be flawless.

Don't forget commemorative clad and silver halves, and also foreign clad and silver. Obama colorized halves are also found, not sure what's done with those.

I searched maybe a half dozen boxes of halves last year. I go through mostly customer rolled and I do recall finding 3 or 4 solid rolls of 40%. A lot of my time was spent dirtfishing and I dug 2 Franklins, a Barber and only one Walker last year.My boxes are always String, I had one Brinks about 2 years ago and it was a good one (27 silvers).

Do you find alot of silver dimes in Brinks? I went through 4 Sealed boxes of brinks and found 1 silver dime. I've been doing pennies and selling the copper so I can earn money to do silvers. Got a box so String with 138 wheats in it. I plan on starting halves in about a month or two. but for now I'm just doing pennies

Awesome String cent box Mr!
I totally avoid Brinks dimes, as I've never found silver in them. String dimes are wonderful. Good luck with the search!
