drnsreedhar Pillar of the Community India 1995 Posts	Posted 04/06/2012 2:04 pm This is a small silver coin of the state of Cochin, the South Indian pricely state. This is known as "Puthan". There are unit and two puthan coins. This particular one is called a "Lekshmi Puthan" because the figure on the first image (on the left) is that of a sitting deity, the goddess of wealth "Lekshmi".There is another belief that this deity is the "Pazhayannoor Bhagavathi", the family deity of the Kingdom that ruled Cochin.On the other side, there is a symbol that denotes probably their dynastic crest.
