Has anyone ever experienced this: You buy a coin (or anything, for that matter) on ebay. While you're waiting for it to show up in the mail the seller does NOT leave feedback for YOU. After you receive the item you decide you're happy with it and you leave positive feedback for the seller. In less than a minute from the time you leave that feedback, you get a positive feedback back from the seller.

Is there some kind of "program" that the seller is using to do this? I notice this most frequently with those MEGA sellers who have 10,000 or more feedbacks and 5 or 10 times that many total ebay transactions.

As often as I've seen this, it's hard to believe that the seller is simply sitting at his computer, sees my positive feedback for him roll in and then reciprocates with one back to me in under a minute.

(ps - I hate it when sellers refuse to leave feedback until the buyer leaves one for them. It's like they're holding your well-deserved feedback hostage until they see if you're going to give them a positive)

What about buyers who refuse to leave feedback that is just as bad I do not leave feedback until it is left for me and I tell the buyer this on their invoice if they are to lazy to do it then why should I help them out with their numbers if they won't help me. After they leave feedback I know items have arrived safely and I am happy to leave feedback for them. I find only about 60-70 percent even bother to leave feedback.

@elkslayer132: It's sad that people view it as a give and take agreement. The feedback system is the only way to verify that someone is worth doing business with. If people choose to not leave feedback then the system becomes unreliable. As a buyer or seller you should want the feedback system to be as accurate as possible. I also wonder if your buyers choose to not leave feedback because you chose to hold their feedback hostage.

As a seller, I never leave feedback first and state so in my auction listings. Once I know the item has arrived, the seller is happy, and there is no chance of a return I will promptly leave pos FB for the buyer. It is a little bit of protection(as worthless as it may be) from curmudgeon buyers who complain over the slightest thing(I wanted the coin in a plastic flip, not a cardboard 2x2!) and buyers who do not know how to properly read an auction before bidding aka bidiots(I thought I was bidding on 1932D quarter, not a 1932P quarter!). If I notice that an auction winner has received the coin but no FB left, I will usually send them a note after a week or so just to make sure everything was ok. The reminder typically prompts them to leave a pos FB but a few buyers will still not leave any FB at that point so I just give up on them.

, I even state in my listings that I will not hold their feedback hostage.

Once a buyer pays, they have upheld their end of the deal. It's up to the seller to maker sure it gets there.

I'm more often the seller than buyer, but I typically expect feedback on both sides to occur once the product has arrived and the transaction is thus complete.

I agree with biokemist6 and I leave feedback 100% of the time when it is left for me and always positive.

Yes, but no one has answered Steve's original question. I don't know, but have noticed the same thing and assumed some kind of software actually leaving the feedback.

yes you can set up auto feedback for your storefront lots of big sellers do it saves them the time of doing it manually that's why it comes up right after you leave feedback for them.

Thanks for the answer to my auto-feedback question. I figured there had to be something like that at work out there. And it really does make sense for sellers with stores or those that do MONSTER numbers of transactions.

On the subject of who leaves feedback first, the buyers are NOT obligated to leave a positive feedback any more than you're obligated to say "You're welcome" or "Thank you" or "Have a nice day" to the cashier at Wal-mart after she's told you "Thank you" for your purchases at her store. It's bad form not to do so, but it's still optional. I view ebay transactions the same way. As an ebay seller I'm sort of like that Wal-mart cashier and I AM obligated to say "thank you" - in the form of a positive feedback, even with the knowledge that I might not hear a peep out of that buyer - or worse, that they might complain that I packed the cantalope on top of the marshmallows.

I certainly acknowledge elkslayer's and biokemist's concerns, and maybe I've led a charmed life on ebay, but in over 10,000 selling transactions I've garnered over 3000 positives with no negatives and probably no more than 5 or 6 neutrals using my "immediate positive feedback when payment is rendered" approach. I'm probably at the point now where if someone gives me a "silly" negative (the example of a coin in a flip instead of a 2x2) I could probably get ebay to reverse it, especially if I've corresponded with the buyer through ebay's system and offered a full refund. (I'd love it if Scubu chimed in on THAT bit of speculation).

The_Duke: You're even further ahead than me on the feedback curve, but I do have something similar built into the invoices that I send out. I state that they'll get my positive feedback BEFORE their coin arrives.

I guess if I was doing MONSTER volume that I might have a different view of this simply because feedback becomes more tedious and complicated when your volumes go up and up. I found that out last weekend when I sold 34 items in one night. That's a LOT for me. I'm normally around a dozen or less. I nearly gave out feedback to a couple folks who hadn't paid and neglected one who did!
