Thanks for the answer to my auto-feedback question. I figured there had to be something like that at work out there. And it really does make sense for sellers with stores or those that do MONSTER numbers of transactions.
On the subject of who leaves feedback first, the buyers are NOT obligated to leave a positive feedback any more than you're obligated to say "You're welcome" or "Thank you" or "Have a nice day" to the cashier at
Wal-mart after she's told you "Thank you" for your purchases at her store. It's bad form not to do so, but it's still optional. I view
ebay transactions the same way. As an
ebay seller I'm sort of like that
Wal-mart cashier and I AM obligated to say "thank you" - in the form of a positive feedback, even with the knowledge that I might not hear a peep out of that buyer - or worse, that they might complain that I packed the cantalope on top of the marshmallows.
I certainly acknowledge elkslayer's and biokemist's concerns, and maybe I've led a charmed life on
ebay, but in over 10,000 selling transactions I've garnered over 3000 positives with no negatives and probably no more than 5 or 6 neutrals using my "immediate positive feedback when payment is rendered" approach. I'm probably at the point now where if someone gives me a "silly" negative (the example of a coin in a flip instead of a 2x2) I could probably get
ebay to reverse it, especially if I've corresponded with the buyer through
ebay's system and offered a full refund. (I'd love it if Scubu chimed in on THAT bit of speculation).
The_Duke: You're even further ahead than me on the feedback curve, but I do have something similar built into the invoices that I send out. I state that they'll get my positive feedback BEFORE their coin arrives.
I guess if I was doing MONSTER volume that I might have a different view of this simply because feedback becomes more tedious and complicated when your volumes go up and up. I found that out last weekend when I sold 34 items in one night. That's a LOT for me. I'm normally around a dozen or less. I nearly gave out feedback to a couple folks who hadn't paid and neglected one who did!
