I'm going to be selling inexpensive coins on ebay ($3-5) with free shipping. According to the USPS website, it says I can ship 1 ounce envelopes for $.45, an 2 ounce envelopes for $.65. I'm assuming that 4" x 8" bubble mailers are considered envelopes, but I could be wrong. Either way, when I enter the shipping information into PayPal (I was doing so to make sure I got the rate), the cheapest I could get was $1.64 through USPS first class. What am I doing wrong here? Any suggestions, or help? Thanks!

I ship coins, usually under $15 in value, in a regular, small size white envelope for .65 cents and I stamp "NON-MACHINABLE" on it. Multiple or slightly more expensive coins, I ship in 000 bubble mailers. If it's rigid or non bendable, it's $1.95. That's what my PO charges anyway.

So you just use a normal plain white envelope? Have you had any issues? Do you have to pay for that shipping at the post office, or can you use stamps? If you use stamps, can you just leave them in your mailbox? I'm already a top rated power seller on ebay, and their new requirements is that you upload tracking information. I'm assuming you don't get any going the cheap way? Thanks for your response.

You're not going to enjoy this, NYBrian84. In fact, I'd advise specifically against selling cheap stuff on ebay any more, unless you're getting it for free. It will likely cost you your rating, because you won't be able to afford tracking as it's not available with First Class Mail. As of May, you're going to need tracking data uploaded within your specified handling period for 90% of your sales to keep that rating, with the drop-dead date being June 20th. Don't do this, or open a new selling account to do it which won't wreck your Top-Rated status.

No tracking going the cheap way. $1.64 is the minimum if getting USPS tracking and that rate is not for "flats". I had a seller upload a "bogus" tracking number to meet the ebay requirements for tracking. They uploaded a useless code in an effort to CYA. On items under $5 I don't mind but imagine ebay will hit these sellers at some point for doing this.

SuperDave - That's what I was worried about, and which is why I'm posting here. I'm not willing to lose my top rated status, which is why I'm asking. Obviously I want to cut costs as much as I can, too. It saves me too much money monthly, and has increased my sales by a good bit by having that status. I've already modified all of my current listings to meet their new standards. I do have two accounts, so maybe I'll do exactly as you're suggesting. I hope ebay doesn't have an issue with it. Do you think they will have a problem with two accounts being linked to one PayPal? BH1964 - I have already run into the same thing, too. I realized right away what he was doing, and honestly, I don't blame him. If their company has a more efficient way of shipping things, then so be it. I see why ebay update their policies but I don't think it was to benefit buyers, but to cut back on the number of top rated sellers there are, that are getting a 20% discount on their final value fees.

@NYBrian84 I have 2 ebay and 2 Paypal accounts without issues, I called about linking my Paypal accounts but I was told by the Paypal representative that it was easier that I just transfer money between the two Paypal accounts, be sure to send it as personal gifts between the accounts to avoid fee.

I actually agree with Super. Don't sell cheap coins on ebay. Not worth your time either. I occasionally do, and find I actually lose $. For coins $15 or less in value, I use a plain white envelope with heavy stock paper inside or corrugated cardboard inside (rigid and non-bendable) to answer your question. I am taking a chance without DC, I know that.

Thanks macmercury! I transfer money as gifts all the time between my two PayPal accounts. I guess I'll just continue that. One last question, is there a way to print a shipping label without postage through ebay? That way I can just pop a $.65 stamp on the envelopes and send them on their way. Thanks everyone for the quick responses, and help!

@ vermontensium, I hope you don't get non-deliverable mail from buyers, but just one case would cost you the next several sells to make it up. @NYBrian84, Let me know if you do find a way?

macmercury - If I find an efficient way, I will let you know. There has to be a fast way to print out labels so you don't need to hand write each one.
One more question for everyone. For those who ship in envelopes, do you just put the coin in a 2"x2" cardboard flip, or do you do it another way?
Any other tips/suggestions are more than welcome.

I regularly sell cheap items on ebay, and I find the only economical way to do it is when they have free listing promotions. As others have stated the tracking requirement will eliminate the profitability of cheap items on top sellers at the start of May. Standard non-machinable first class is $0.65 cents for up to one ounce and $0.85 up to the second ounce. A coin in an envelope is considered by postal regulations to be non-machinable, so most post offices will charge the $0.65 cent rate as opposed to the $0.45 rate that first class mail usually is.

Quote: Do you have to pay for that shipping at the post office, or can you use stamps? If you use stamps, can you just leave them in your mailbox? Stamps are fine, but any non-metered mail over 13 oz must be handed to a USPS employee. Quote: Do you think they will have a problem with two accounts being linked to one PayPal? You can link multiple emails (seven?) to one PayEnemy account. Each ebay and PP account needs a different email and bank info.
