On a whim today, I searched up "toned Morgan dollars" on ebay and THIS was the top result:

http://cgi.ebay.com/130677513037

I believe that there have been previous discussions on CCF about this guy or one like him who puts "AT" in his item title for a nicely toned morgan. Many people said it was likely a blowtorch that did coins like this one. I just wanted to let you know that he is still selling , but has an explanation for "AT" at the bottom of the page. It's still hard to see. By ebay rules, is this wrong, or this misleading to anyone but us (coin enthusiasts) but ok by ebay regulations?

Personally I do not care for the coins but now that AT is spelled out in regular font, I do not think it is misleading. The seller also has a 14 day return policy which I think is fair.

Numismedia has it at $85.

I think the second guy is a shark but has enough information that a buyer should be able to make an informed choice. At some point buyers need to take responsibility for their purchases,

The first one clearly states (in my opinion) Artificially Toned, so I don't see what's misleading about it.

The second example the seller is free to ask whatever they want for it. If someone is naive enough to pay $975 for that coin, that's not the seller's fault. He's not making any claims of it being worth $975 so I am wondering what you think is misleading about this one?

Coin hunter,

You are right... I just thought that the outrageous price was rather funny. Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!

I've seen that Cowboy up dude selling these junk Morgans for years. He only recently changed to telling you in the listing that they are artificially toned.

Honest or not, its not hard to take advantage of the naive. <<Staff edit: Family friendly remember?>>
