I have successfully panned for gold, near Oberon N.S.W. Only for a bit of holiday entertainment though, found a few small flakes.
Total value? Dunno, probably four fifths of five eighths of just about nothing. Would have done better with a detector, after nuggets.
I have also found some nice gem rough sapphire, near Inverell, N.S.W., which is about 200 kilometers North of Oberon.

I live 45 minutes from the East Fork of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California where I sluice occasionally. I usually meet up with others while I'm there and we line the river digging into the banks and bring the "paydirt", hopefully, down to our sluice to be washed through, late panned. We always have a little "color" at the end of the day. Occasionally, someone will find a nugget. I've seen some dime sized pieces come out of this area.

I must have seen too many "unsearched" wheat lots. But, what stops someone from selling their tailings as "paydirt".

If there was more than $6 of gold on average in each lot he wouldnt be selling it. Think how little $6 of gold is.
At first glance this seems like bait for fools but I dont know much about it.
Then again if you get $6 of fun then why not

The thing that made me laugh is the phrase "sluice cons", I know he means consentrate but my mind cant get past the pejorative "con"... Quote: Then again if you get $6 of fun then why not

I'll betcha they 'salt' those bags, so there is at least a tiny bit of gold in each bag, so you will be encouraged to buy more.
Imagine: If you don't find any at all, not only have you wasted your money, you have wasted your time. With only two pounds to search through, and you don't find any the first time, I'll betcha you will go through it all again!
Still, that may be cheaper with fuel costs they they are, than going out into the countryside to get to your favorite creek to go panning in situ, AND avoiding the snakes as well!

I reline ball and Sag mill crushers all over Australia and some of these are at some of the richest gold deposits. I see gold on a regular basis and don't even think about taking any home. However I recon there would be more gold in my dirty socks at the end of a working shift than in that 2 lb of "pay dirt"
