All,
Here's the picture of the Texas quarter that has no "two-tone" rim like most quarters. Weight is 5.81 gms, so it's not silver. Rim is the same color and shine as the front and back of the coin.

Also, a pic of a dime I found last year. I gather it's a broken die error that made it through.

Anyone have any thoughts on either? Particularly the Texas quarter.

Thanks,
Jason

The quarter is what I answered in the other post,,plated with another metal, silver or platinum morethan likely,, many of these are sold to the unknowledgeable collector every year,, they have no added value .

The dime is a nice die crack,, interesting to look at and find ,but very little if any added value to the coin.

Thanks again Metalman. I guess I'll just throw it in the box with the rest of my interesting coins.

I put mine in 2x2's and red whitman boxes,, I like to find coins like the dime you found,, I will never get rich from them, but they interest me ,, and make a great resource library.

You'll have to come high, or stay at home, if that thing's real, and it sure looks real. Maybe we could work out a joint-ownership thing...

I found it in my change jar during last year's sort, so I assume it just made it into circulation like a normal dime. It's real. Truth be told, I'm more of a silver coin collector, again, an amature novice, but if someone is really into error coins, they'd probably appreciate it more than I. Anyone want to trade some pre-65 silver coins for it? Email me at Email removedif so. I wouldn't even know how to accurately describe it on ebay although it might be worth a try.

Here's a couple of more pictures to try to convey what it looks like. It almost appears that there's a fold or lip along the upper edge of the broken die mark. Kind of like the metal is folded over somewhat.

Metalman, that's not just a die crack, that's a broken die. Very cool find. I would buy that dime for my collection, and pay a nice premium.

Stupid question, but what is the difference between this and a "lamination" error. From the pictures, this is what it looks like from previous examples I have seen here of lamination.

Is lamination only on certain types/years of coins?

Does it only happen near edges?

Just curious what automatically makes this a die crack or break compared to a lamination error?

Thanks, and I apologize if this seems basic to most.

Oops! That "50 posts to sell" applies to me as well. Sorry for not reading the rules first.

I did some research on that very cool dime. It is not a broken die it is a split die. A broken die of course would have one of the halves broken off.

This is a great example of a split die.

Nice find.
