I'm pretty sure the U.S. didn't release a half dollar in 1804. Ooops, scratch that last sentence. I just realized the coin is a dollar and not a half dollar. I haven;t had my second cup of coffee so I must still be asleep

The only thing that stands out at first glance is the star by the "Y" in liberty. I am only comparing to pictures online that I know to be real, but it seems like the star is too close to the "Y", or just in the wrong place per say. I could be way off. If it's real, I would think that it is ridiculously rare, if I'm looking at things correctly. Which doesn't help the skepticism here.....

Lightwind, there are only 15 1804 Dollars in existence. Any one of them coming onto the market will become the most expensive coin ever sold. The chances of your coin being real are infinitesimal.

I was looking up at coinfacts.com and ran across this same coin there. Or at least the pictures look the same as in identical. Here is the link. http://www.coinfacts.com/silver_dol...r_dollar.htmDon't get me wrong I am not saying you don't have this coin, but is that the correct picture?

All the same, it's only fair and appropriate that the member be allowed to respond before anyone passes any judgement. I'm not comfortable with the direction this could take; don't expect it to be tolerated should it do so.

if it is the coin pictures at coin facts there is still the question on whether it is authentic or not, it seems this is a class III coin which means mine employee's minted it to sell to collectors because there were only 8 class I's made. So to some numismatists these are nothing but fakes made to deceive just as if someone at the mint producing some older coin now and getting it out of the mint and him doing it to deceive collectors

O oh! in truth I purchased this coin from a private deal. I thought I already owned it without having it in my possesion as of yet since my buyer told me its been sent thru mail. I thought of posting this picture to ask everybody's general opinion because I'm having skepticism. And I didnt knew it was one of the rarest coin, I sincerely didnt imagine it'll create this kind of scandal that will loose my credibility. I would like to thank southern Yankee for the link that gave me an insight about my private dealing that got me on alert that I have bought a piece with a picture taken from another site. i got Duped!!!! I'm so sorry for the ruckus guys I really didnt know!!!! i'll just be quiet for now. Thank you. i need to settle a score with my seller!

I don't think anybody meant to be quick to judge. People didn't realize the coin you posted was just an example picture-- rather than the acual coin itself...

I think there is a valuable lesson here. A picture is only a picture after all and it can be copied. An unscrupulous seller can switch coins or just never send a coin. It would be a short term scam but it has been reported many times. So I guess we really need to know our sellers! Seems that's been said before. Lightwind_99 - I would say it is not YOUR credibility at stake but rather the fellow who sold the coin to you. Does he/she have a name, website or ebay identity so that we can check out his stuff? Sounds like it could be fun!
